Over the past few days, I haven’t been feeling well. I don’t feel like cooking, so I haven’t been eating as much. This ends up being counter-productive, since my body needs the fuel. By not eating, I’m only making myself more tired, and setting myself up for weight gain, rather than weight loss.
I’m really missing the convenience of fast food and junk foods… they’re ready to go and I don’t have to do any prep. (Why doesn’t someone invent a healthy fast-food restaurant with a drive-thru? They would make a fortune!) So, in order to keep myself from falling into bad habits, I’ve been searching for healthy on-the-go options.
I’ve discovered a few favorite convenient “go-to” foods. Meijer has pre-made salads in their deli section that are delicious! The Chicken Caesar Salad (without the Caesar dressing… yuck!) is one of my favorites, and so is their Berry and Walnut Salad. They’re sold by weight, and I can usually get a decent sized salad for less than $3. I’ve also been keeping a bag of Halos (mandarin oranges) on my desk at work. Whenever I’m craving a snack, I go for one of those, rather than heading for the vending machine.
I went to Trader Joe’s over the weekend. While I didn’t pick up any full meals, I did get some tasty snacks. I found some Freeze Dried Blueberries, which were absolutely delicious! The entire bag was only 130 calories, and had 0 fat. I’ll definitely be picking those up again. I also grabbed a few of the Apple Strawberry Dried Fruit Bars. They’re similar to a Fruit Roll-Up, but cut into slightly thicker strips. One bar is 60 calories, and again… 0 fat! The Roasted Coconut Chips are another tasty treat, 160 calories per serving. These do have 10g of fat though, so they’re best in small portions.
I’m looking forward to finding some tasty, easy to make warm-weather treats to enjoy now that the weather is improving. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know in the comments!
