Hi.  I’m Jen, and this blog will be the story of my journey toward a healthier life.

I was fortunate enough to win the opportunity to participate in the Y Transform program at the East Butler YMCA, and I’m so excited to get started!  As part of the program, I get the opportunity to meet with a Personal Trainer twice a week, and meet with a nutritionist monthly.  On top of all that, I have a membership to the East Butler YMCA, and I can participate in a wide variety of classes and enjoy the Fitness Center.  I am really looking forward to this!

Last week, I got to “settle in” a bit at the Y.  I went through an Equipment Orientation to get myself familiar with all the weightlifting equipment in the Fitness Center, and took part in a few classes to get a feeling for what classes I’d like to participate in on a more regular basis.

Dance Fusion
The first evening, I tried Dance Fusion, which is very similar to Zumba.  The music is catchy, and the pace is good, but I have absolutely no rhythm.  I stayed in the back of the classroom and just felt generally awkward, but at least I tried!

H2O Deep
The following night, I tried H2O Deep, which is an aquatic exercise class that takes place in the deep end of the pool.  In order to stay afloat,  you wear a flotation belt.   I was nervous that they wouldn’t have a belt big enough to fit me.  (I am a BIG girl after all…) Luckily, they had one that did the trick!  H2O Deep was a great workout, and I didn’t feel nearly as awkward as I did during Dance Fusion.

Cardio Splash
The next evening, I tried Cardio Splash.  Cardio Splash was pretty similar to H2O Deep, but takes place in the shallow end of the pool, and you don’t need a flotation belt.  I was able to feel the stretch in my muscles a lot more in Cardio Splash, and was able to “run” on the bottom of the pool.  Cardio Splash is my favorite class so far… I liked it so well, I went back again on Saturday morning!

Tonight, I have my first meeting with my Personal Trainer, and tomorrow I have my first meeting with my nutritionist.  Wish me luck!
