Certifications
The Y offers many certification courses including CPR & First Aid, Lifeguarding, Babysitting, and Swim Lessons Instructor.
CPR & First Aid
CPR, offered through HSI (Health & Safety Institute) teaches the knowledge and skills to provide emergency care for someone unconscious, not breathing, choking, or in cardiac arrest, as well as how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator). This course is 3 hours in length.
First Aid, offered through HSI, teaches the knowledge and skills to provide emergency care for someone suffering from varying degrees of injury. Nose bleeds, broken bones, impaled objects, insect bites are all covered in this course. This course is 3 hours in length.

Lifeguarding
The YMCA Lifeguard V7 certification is required of all YMCA lifeguards. This course is accepted by many other aquatic facilities. This course teaches the knowledge and skills required to be a vigilant and competent lifeguard. This is a blended course, with e-learnings as well as in person and in pool sessions. The e-learnings take 6 hours to complete and the in person portion course takes 24 hours. Candidate must be 15 years or older.
Prerequisite swim: continuous swim
100 yards freestyle
100 yards breaststroke
50 yards freestyle with head up
50 yards breaststroke with head up
2 minute treading without using hands
Start in shallow end, sprint freestyle head up 20 yards, arm over arm surface dive to retrieve a dive ring from the bottom (at least 7ft). Surface, and tread water for 1 minute without using hands. Place the dive ring on chest and swim on back the remaining 5 yards to the edge, exit the water without using a ladder, and perform 100 chest compressions on a manikin.

Babysitting
Learn the skills needed to be a trusted, effective babysitter - and the leadership and job interview skills you'll need to start your own business. Upon completing this course, you will receive the Child and Babysitting Safety Certification. This class takes 5 hours to complete. Candidate must be 10 years or older.

Swim Lessons Instructor
This training provides instructors with the ability to maintain an inclusive environment of learning while keeping order in a positive and safe environment, and employ swim teaching techniques that break down the crucial features of a swimmer's skill progression at any age and level. This course takes 14 hours to complete. Candidate must be 16 years or older.
Prerequisites:
- Hold a current certification in BLS, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen
- E-learnings: Principles of Youth Development, YMCA SLI: Orientation, YMCA SLI: Observe and Communicate. E-learnings take 2 hours to complete.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in 4/6 of the following strokes: front crawl, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly, elementary backstroke, side stroke
