YMCA Swim Test & Bands

Anyone under the age of 16 must wear a swim band in any of our pools. Swim bands are given at the front desk.

Green bands can go in the deep or shallow end of the pool. If a green band is under age 10, they must be supervised by an adult. Yellow bands are non-swimmers over age 10, and they must stay in the shallow end where they can touch the bottom and be supervised by an adult. Red bands are non-swimmers and must stay within an arm's reach of an adult in the pool at all times.

In order to pass the YMCA Swim test, a swimmer must proficiently:

  • Jump in the deep end feet first, unassisted
  • Float on back for 10 seconds
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Swim length of the pool with strong over arm stroke and kick, continuous swim

Once a swim test has been passed, members will have their name recorded as passing the swim test and will receive a green band at the front desk.

Scouts Swim Test

Scouts can come in to have simple badge skills checked off by a certified lifeguard by appointment only. This costs $10 for members or non-members. Please contact the Aquatic Director at the branch you are interested in the scout swim test to schedule.

More in-depth skills assessments with a scout troop should contact the Aquatic Director to schedule a pool rental. Prices for this vary on length of time and number of laps needed.
