The YMCA provides American Safety and Healthy Institute (ASHI) CPR, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, and YMCA Lifeguard training courses.  Gain the skills and knowledge you need to provide care and act in an emergency. 

 

 

YMCA Lifegaurding Certification

Being a lifeguard can be a very challenging and rewarding job.  The purpose of this class is to teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies.
Participants must be 16 years of age and pass two phases of physical competency including 350 yards swimming and two minutes of treading water with legs only. Must have access to a computer for eight hours of E-learning including certification for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration. The YMCA lifeguard certification is good for two years. 

YMCA Lifegaurding Crossover

Being a lifeguard can be a very challenging and rewarding job.  This training will allow lifeguards already certified in Red Cross or Ellis to become YMCA Lifeguard certified.
Participants must be 16 years of age and pass two phases of physical competency including 350 yards swimming and two minutes of treading water with legs only  Must have access to a computer for eight hours of E-learning and includes certification for CPR for the Professinal Rescuer, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration. 

ASHI Certification

ASHI stands for "American Safety and Health Institute". The goal of this training is to help students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to respond in a medical emergency.

ASHI Re-Certification

This class is for those who are currently ASHI certified and their certification is expiring. Certification must be renewed every two years.

ASHI Babysittig Training

The American Safety & Health Institute Babysitting Training class stresses the priority to keep you and the children you care for safe. This ASHI Babysitting Class prepares children 11-15 years of age for the responsibility of babysitting. Students will learn accident prevention, feeding, diapering, and first aid. Please bring a sack lunch, drink, and snack.

ASHI CPR Training

ASHI stands for “American Safety and Health Institute”. The goal of this training is to help students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to respond in a medical emergency. ASHI’s basic first aid, CPR/AED, and advanced resuscitation training programs require successful completion of a written exam and competent performance of hands-on skills evaluated by a ASHI authorized instructor.

YASA (YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant)

This course is designed to train individuals in the knowledge and skills necessary to help prevent and recognize aquatic risks to assist and alert a lifeguard in the emergency response to an accident or injury. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be certified in the following American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) courses: " 

  • CPR Pro for the Professional Rescuer 
  • Basic First Aid for the Community 
  • Emergency Oxygen Administration 

This course does not provide participants with lifeguard certification and training.
