Active Adults in the YMCA experience a strong sense of belongingness and a network of friends who provide supportive communities for sustained health and well-being. Through on-going, fun, safe, and engaging programs, activities, and events; members increase their self-confidence and sense of achievement while building relationships and celebrating the success and milestones of each older adult within their community. There are many programming opportunities within the YMCA, and while the classes below are geared specifically toward the Active Adults community, we also see many Active Adults participating in other cardio, strength and water fitness classes as well.
This gentle form of yoga will practice yoga sitting in a chair or standing using the chair for support. Complicated maneuvers and complex movements are NOT present in this class. The chair is used due to the difficulty in getting down and up off the floor. Learn many yoga postures, breathing techniques, meditation and ways of relaxation.
Fit for Life
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength and range of movement. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball are offered for resistance. A chair is used for seating and/or standing support.
Enhance® Fitness is a 60 minute class that uses chairs and padded ankle and hand weights to work on balance, strength, flexibility, and movement. Instructors encourage participants to challenge themselves but to move at their own pace. The class is geared towards older adults, but if you have a chronic condition, such as arthritis, you may gain more strength and independence!
